Program Description

The Qualifying Individual (QI) Program is one of the four Medicare Savings Programs that allows you to get help from your state to pay your Medicare premiums. This Program helps pay for Part B premiums only.

Program Requirements

You can’t get QI benefits if you qualify for Medicaid.

In order to qualify for QI benefits you must meet the following income requirements, which can also be found on the Medicare Savings Programs page:

  • Individual monthly income limit $1,377
  • Married couple monthly income limit $1,847
  • Individual resource limit $7,390
  • Married couple resource limit $11,090

Please Note: These limits change from year to year, so please check the Medicare Savings Programspage for the most up to date income requirements.

Application Process

To apply call your state Medicaid Program.

You must apply every year for QI benefits. QI applications are granted on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to people who received QI benefits the previous year.

It’s important to call or fill out an application if you think you could qualify for savings—even if your income or resources are higher than the amounts listed here.
