Program Description
The State Children’s Health Insurance Program, also known as SCHIP, provides health care coverage for uninsured infants, children and teenagers in Oklahoma. Oklahoma and every state in the nation have this program. Your child is eligible for SCHIP if your family income meets a certain Federal guideline based on a higher income bracket than the traditional Medicaid program. For example, a family of three could make up to $2,353 a month for a child to qualify for SCHIP. To be eligible for the program, your child also must: be under the age of 19, not be eligible for Medicaid under eligibility rules in effect before November 1997. Uninsured children who meet previous eligibility standards must be enrolled in Medicaid, not SCHIP. The State Children’s Health Insurance Program pays for your child’s: doctor appointments, prescription medicines, hospital stays, and other health care services.
