Program Description

Healthy Steps insurance features comprehensive coverage including preventive services and some dental and vision services.

Program Requirements

For this benefit program, you must be a resident of the state of North Dakota, under 19 years of age, not covered by health insurance (including Medicaid), a U.S. national, citizen, legal alien, or permanent resident.

In order to qualify, you must have an annual household income (before taxes) that is below the following amounts:

1 $19,424
2 $26,336
3 $33,248
4 $40,160
5 $47,072
6 $53,984
7 $60,896
8 $67,808

*For households with more than eight people, add $6,912 per additional person. Always check with the appropriate managing agency to ensure the most accurate guidelines.

Application Process

Apply Online (you must register first), or complete the Health Coverage Application and return it to the Department of Human Services, 600 E. Boulevard Avenue, Dept. 325, Bismarck, ND 58505-0250. This application is used to determine if individuals qualify for health coverage under the Healthy Steps children’s health insurance program or Medicaid.
