Program Description

Through Mississippi Health Benefits, there are two health coverage options for children: the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and Medicaid. CHIP is a free/low cost private health plan for children in families meeting family size/income requirements. This program covers eligible children to their 19th birthday. Families are urged to apply to see if their children are eligible for either the CHIP or the Medicaid program.

Program Requirements

In order to qualify for Mississippi CHIP, you must be a resident of Mississippi, under 19 years of age, not covered by health insurance (including Medicaid), and a U.S. national, citizen, legal alien, or permanent resident.

In order to qualify, you must have an annual household income (before taxes) that is below the following amounts:

Household Size* Maximum Income Level (Per Year)
1 $25,373
2 $34,401
3 $43,430
4 $52,459
5 $61,488
6 $70,517
7 $79,545
8 $88,574

*For households with more than eight people, add $9,029 per additional person. Always check with the appropriate managing agency to ensure the most accurate guidelines.
