Program Description

There are some basic rules for getting MassHealth under the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Even if you or your family already have health insurance, you may be eligible if your family’s income is low or medium and you are a child under age 19.

Program Requirements

In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the state of Massachusetts, under 19 years of age, not eligible for Medicaid, low to medium income and a U.S. national, citizen, qualified noncitizen and other noncitizens.

In order to qualify, you must have an annual household income (before taxes) that is below the following amounts:

1 $36,420
2 $49,380
3 $62,340
4 $75,300
5 $88,260
6 $101,220
7 $114,180
8 $127,140

*For households with more than eight people, add $12,960 per additional person. Always check with the appropriate managing agency to ensure the most accurate guidelines.

To receive MassHealth, you may apply online on the Massachusetts Health Connector page or you may, download an Application for Health Coverage and Help Paying Costs from Mass.gov.
