Program Description

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a Federally-funded program that helps low-income households with their home energy bills. LIHEAP can help you stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer. By doing so, you can reduce the risk of health and safety problems (such as illness, fire, or eviction).

The Iowa LIHEAP program may be able to offer you one or more of the following types of assistance:

  • Bill payment assistance.
  • Energy crisis assistance.
  • Weatherization and energy-related home repairs.

Program Requirements

The Iowa LIHEAP program may also require households to meet additional eligibility criteria to receive LIHEAP assistance.

In order to qualify, you must have an annual household income (before taxes) that is below the following amounts:

1 $21,105
2 $28,420
3 $35,735
4 $43,050
5 $50,365
6 $57,680
7 $64,995
8 $72,310

*For households with more than eight people, add $7,315 per additional person. Always check with the appropriate managing agency to ensure the most accurate guidelines.
