Program Description

Soil and Water Conservation Assistance (SWCA) provides cost share and incentive payments to farmers and ranchers to voluntarily address threats to soil, water, and related natural resources, including grazing land, wetlands, and wildlife habitat. SWCA will help landowners comply with Federal and state environmental laws and make beneficial, cost-effective changes to cropping systems, grazing management, nutrient management, and irrigation.

Program Requirements

Eligible applicants include land users, land owners, community organizations, state governments and local governments. Necessary resource assistance is usually reviewed with the conservation district governing body. Individuals and groups may become cooperators with local conservation districts to which application for assistance is directed. Applicants are also eligible in Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Western Pacific U.S. Trust Territories.

Application Process

SWCA applications will be accepted at local Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS) or conservation district offices. Other agricultural or natural resource agencies may assist with accepting applications. The application (form CCC-1200) is available at the local USDA Service Center or on the web at http://www.sc.egov.usda.gov.
