Program Description
The Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) helps agricultural producers maintain and improve their existing conservation systems and adopt additional conservation activities to address priority resources concerns. Participants earn CSP payments for conservation performance – the higher the performance, the higher the payment.
Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be an operator of record in Farm Service Agency (FSA) record system unless an exception is granted. Eligible lands include cropland, grassland, prairie land, pastureland, rangeland, nonindustrial private forest land, and agricultural land under the jurisdiction of an Indian tribe. Applicants may include individuals, legal entities, joint operations, or Indian tribes.
Application Process
NRCS will help eligible producers develop CSP stewardship plan which will become the basis of the CSP contract. CSP applications will be ranked based on a number of factors, including the environmental benefits and cost effectiveness of the proposal.
Applications for CSP are accepted on a continuous basis; however, the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) establishes application “cut-off” dates for evaluation and ranking of eligible applications. For information about how to apply, contact the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Office within your local USDA Service Center.
Application forms for this program can be downloaded on the CSP homepage.
