Program Description

The Washington Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a public health nutrition program that helps pregnant women, new mothers, and young children eat well, learn about nutrition and stay healthy. WIC provides you with monthly checks for up to $100 worth of healthy foods when two people in your family enroll in the program. Each person gets checks for up to $50 worth of healthy foods. The program also provides nutrition tips and breastfeeding support. Many WIC clients are from working families or families in the military. And, getting WIC does not affect your immigration status. The Washington State Department of Health administers the program.

Program Requirements

To qualify you must be a resident of the state of Washington; a pregnant, breastfeeding and/or postpartum woman; or an infant or child under age 5.

In order to qualify, you must have an annual household income (before taxes) that is below the following amounts:

*For households with more than eight people, add $7,992 per additional person. Always check with the appropriate managing agency to ensure the most accurate guidelines.

If you or someone in your family participates in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), you are income eligible for WIC.

Application Process

To apply, you can call one of over 200 local clinics and make an appointment. To find a clinic near where you live call 1-800-322-2588 or use the WIC Clinic Search tool.
