Program Description

Vermont WIC, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, helps pregnant women, new mothers and young children eat well, learn about nutrition and physical activity, and connect to health care and other programs and services. Our goal is to improve health and prevent chronic disease by helping women meet their breastfeeding goals, informing families about good health practices and providing nutritious foods to eligible Vermont families. The WIC program in Vermont is administered by the Vermont Department of Health.

Program Requirements

In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the state of Vermont; a pregnant, breastfeeding and/or postpartum woman; an infant or child up to 5 years of age; live in a household with income below 185 percent of the Federal poverty guideline OR be enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Medicaid. Benefits are based on an individual nutrition and health assessment.

In order to qualify, you must have an annual household income (before taxes) that is below the following amounts:

*For households with more than eight people, add $7,992 per additional person. Always check with the appropriate managing agency to ensure the most accurate guidelines.
