Program Description

WIC is a special supplemental nutrition program for eligible women, infants and children, funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered by the South Dakota Department of Health. WIC’s goal is to promote and maintain the health and well-being of nutritionally at-risk women, infants and young children.

Program Requirements

In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of South Dakota, pregnant, breastfeeding or postpartum woman, infant or child up to 5 years of age and are individually determined by a health professional to be at nutrition or health risk and meet income guidelines. *For households with more than eight people, add $7,733 per additional person. Always check with the appropriate managing agency to ensure the most accurate guidelines.

A person who participates or has family members who participate in certain other benefit programs, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), approved aid category codes for Medicaid or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), automatically meet income eligibility requirements.
