Program Description

Provides funding to develop a 1994 extension (non-formal education) capacity to serve the needs of the tribal or reservation community. Each extension office works with reservation communities to implement programs that address local needs or opportunities. Within this grant program are two types of funds: Capacity grants and Special Emphasis grants. Capacity grants fund an entire Extension office which can have many mission areas and clients. Special Emphasis grants are targeted, short-term pilot projects that allow Extension educators to explore new ways to better serve their community.

Program Requirements

Accredited and legislatively designated 1994 Land-Grant Institutions.

Application Process

A competitive peer reviewed grant opportunity where eligible 1994s can apply to receive funding. Capacity awards ($125,000) are made for a four-year period under a continuation grant. Pilot projects are funded every two years for $200,000. Recipients must file annual progress and financial reports.
