Program Description
The purpose of the Healthy Forests Reserve Program (HFRP) is to assist landowners, on a voluntary basis, in restoring, enhancing and protecting forestland resources on private lands through easements, 30-year contracts and 10-year cost-share agreements.
Program Requirements
HFRP applicants must provide proof of ownership, or an operator (tenant) must provide written concurrence from the landowner of tenancy for the period of the HFRP restoration agreement in order to be eligible.
To be eligible for enrollment, land must be private land or Tribal land that will restore, enhance or measurably increase the likelihood of recovery of a threatened or endangered species and must improve biological diversity or increase carbon sequestration.
Application Process
To enroll land through HFRP easements, landowners and operators may apply at any time at the local USDA Service Center.
You may download the NRCS conservation program application or visit the NRCS Steps to Assistance website.
