Program Description

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a Federally-funded program that helps low-income households with their home energy bills. LIHEAP can help you stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer. By doing so, you can reduce the risk of health and safety problems (such as illness, fire, or eviction).

The Colorado LIHEAP program may be able to offer you one or more of the following types of assistance:

  • Bill payment assistance.
  • Energy crisis assistance.
  • Weatherization and energy-related home repairs.

Program Requirements

The LIHEAP program in your community determines if your household’s income qualifies for the program.

You must be a resident of the state of Colorado and you must need financial assistance with home energy costs. You must also be responsible for paying heating costs directly to an energy provider or as part of your rent.

In order to qualify, you must have an annual household income (before taxes) that is below the following amounts:

Household Size* Maximum Income Level (Per Year)
1 $18,210
2 $24,690
3 $31,170
4 $37,650
5 $44,130

*For households with more than eight people, add $6,480 per additional person. Always check with the appropriate managing agency to ensure the most accurate guidelines.
