Program Description
The Oklahoma Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a Federally funded program that provides financial assistance to approximately 182,000 Oklahoma low-income households each year to help them meeting the cost of home energy. Household can receive one payment per federal fiscal for main heating energy source during LIHEAP winter heating open enrollment, and for main cooling energy source during LIHEAP summer cooling open enrollment. We also provide assistance for some households that received a cut-off or a refusal to delivery addition fuel notice from the utility providers during energy crisis open enrollment period with a minimum requirement payment to prevent interruption/ restore/ establish service or fuel delivery. All LIHEAP assistances are subject to available funding by the Federal government.
Program Requirements
In order to qualify for Oklahoma LIHEAP benefit, the household member must be a resident of the state of Oklahoma. Eligibility for LIHEAP is based on each household’s income and assets that meet financial need assistance for home energy costs. Everyone who resides under the same utility service address must apply together. If any household member is Native American, energy assistance can be applied through Oklahoma LIHEAP or with the tribe; however household cannot receive assistance from both during the same federal fiscal year.
In order to qualify, you must have an annual household income (before taxes) that is below the following amounts:

And liquid resources in the form of cash on hand, checking or savings accounts, certificates of deposits, stocks, or bonds cannot exceed $2,000 for one person, $3,000 for two persons, and $50 for each additional person in the household.
Many households receiving public assistance through State of Oklahoma – Department of Human Services (DHS) such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), State Supplemental Payment (SSP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) will be automatically authorized for LIHEAP assistance and will not need to make application. Automatically authorized households will be notified of their eligibility by letter before the application period begins.
